Frivolous Friday: Willie and Katie Are Getting Hitched; Can the Internet Survive?

Instead of “Geek Friday”, tomorrow is “Frivolous Friday”.  Any news that is real news will be squashed by the royal wedding.  I’m posting this a day early just in case the Internet crashes because it cannot hold up under the weight of traffic.

But, don’t just take my word for it.  CNN just today posted “Will the royal wedding break the Internet?”  According to author John D Sutter (and, let’s face it, you have to like anyone named “John D” :) ), when the words “You may kiss the bride” are uttered, Twitter, Facebook, streaming video and uploaded pictures could very well stall networks in a major way.

Comparisons are being made to when Michael Jackson died and servers all over stuttered.  Twitter in particular had trouble then and also when the 2010 World Cup and Wimbledon were going on simultaneously.  It is a very real possibility it could again have trouble keeping up with the demand.

As for me?  Well, apparently the wedding kicks off at 6:00 am Cleveland time, so I guess I’ll be up anyhow.  Even if I don’t watch it, I wonder if I’ll get any work done.

Geek Friday Humor: Is the Economy Really THAT Bad?

This just in: Due to a sluggish economy, Microsoft has decided to change how they will deal with operating system issues in older versions of Windows. Previously, Windows XP was slated for obsolescence, which means it would no longer be supported. However, in order to spur on sales of Windows 7 and MS Office 2010, they will support it using a pay-for-incident model.

They have already made modifications to their error reporting system, and users should note small changes to the dialog box that appears after a crash:

Fun Friday

Computer problems can do this to you.

Superhero Blogging

OK, I just can’t pass this one up! Ink Pen isn’t one of the best known comics out there, but it is sometimes a hoot!
