Geek Friday: Sharing eBay Listings With Business Facebook Page

I was listing some items on eBay yesterday, and I wanted to point it out to someone on Facebook.  It then dawned on me that there should be a way to automatically post items for sale on a business page.

So, I was excited when I saw eBay’s page “Promoting your items on other sites”.  However, that excitement was very short-lived.

Currently, you can share your eBay listings with friends on Facebook. If you share your listings with your friends on Facebook, they’ll be able to view your listings in your News Feed.

First, that makes no sense.  No one else can see your News Feed!  After some digging, it posts to your profile, and there is no way to post to a business page.  That’s certainly one of the dumbest things I’ve seen in a while!  I would hope that no one out there really would use their personal profile to show eBay items!  If they are, I would unfriend them as fast as possible, without hesitation.

Fortunately, I came across About.com’s “How to Drive eBay Sales Using Facebook”, which introduces you to the app eBay Items.  Unfortunately, the directions are a bit of a mess.  Facebook changes its user interface often, and About.com does not date their articles, so you never know how up to date they are!

But!  There is a YouTube video “Sell eBay items on Facebook page for FREE – How to Setup eBay Store”.  It explains in some detail how to set up the app in Facebook.

So far, so good.  It just seems weird that it requires a third party app rather than something from eBay itself.
